About Alpha

Alpha is an 11-week course that creates a space, online or in person, where people are excited to bring their friends for a conversation about faith, life and God. 

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone’s welcome. It runs online, in cafés, churches, universities, homes—you name it. No two Alphas look the same, but generally they have three key things in common: hospitality, a talk and good conversation.

What’s included in Alpha?

Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick online catch-up, times of connecting are important. It’s no different at Alpha. Whether in person over a meal or virtually with a cup of tea, all sessions start with a time to connect, relax and build friendships.
The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Each talk is around thirty minutes long and given by a speaker or played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us?
One of the most important parts of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and discuss in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t say (seriously). It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

Alpha helped me through a difficult period in my life and saved me from repeating the same mistakes again.

I was born into faith but because of life situations I drifted away and became lost in the world, I’d been hurt and needed someone to help.

I joined Bethel and immediately fell in love with it but still had many doubts and questions.
During a service a talk about Alpha came up, I hadn’t a clue what it was but took an invitation handed to me, they said think of someone who needed it and invite them.
Well I tried to think of someone but the only person I could think of was myself so I invited myself!

I had so many questions about God, Jesus and faith and hoped that Alpha would give me some answers.

I turned up for the first session very nervous but was soon at ease as everyone was so friendly and the leaders were so knowledgeable.
We watched videos followed by discussions, opinions varied between people, but nobody judged or told people what they needed to believe or think.

Each week things became clearer for me, some sessions were very emotional and others were harder to understand, Alpha gave me time and the tools to sort through my emotions and get back to where I needed to be with my faith.

I would recommend Alpha to everyone, wherever it leads you, whatever questions you have, it will give you an amazing group of friends and allow you to have your questions answered.

I was introduced to the Alpha Course by a friend. I went along out of curiosity and I was amazed by the great welcome and the friendships offered.

From the first meeting, I was keen to learn about the life of Jesus and how he could change my life forever.

It is an amazing experience with so much friendly loving support.
